Instructions
The advice to wrap mattresses applies to every mattress on which a baby sleeps (except a BabeSafe® mattress) and includes: mattresses of other children; adults’ mattresses; and all mattresses made of or containing natural products such as sheepskins, goatskins, kapok, tree bark, coconut fibre, etc.

The most convenient way to wrap a baby’s mattress for crib death prevention is by means of a BabeSafe® mattress slip-cover. These covers are manufactured in six sizes and are available at babycare retail outlets throughout New Zealand and by mail order in some other countries.  You may order here, at Baby's Sake.

BabeSafe covers are made of polyethylene (polythene) sheeting. The thickness of the polythene is at least 125 microns.  PVC (polyvinyl chloride) is never used for mattress-wrapping.

Place the mattress into the slip-cover (1), and tuck in the corners at the end of the mattress near the opening of the cover (2) .  Seal the cover
firmly on the underside of the mattress using the strong adhesive strip on the cover (3).  If there is excess plastic, fold the extra width or length over the side/s
or end/s of the mattress so that the cover is smooth on the top of the mattress, and tape the excess plastic onto the cover using strong adhesive tape, taking care not to cover the ventilation hole/s.

Place the covered mattress in the bassinet or crib. The ventilation hole/s must be on the UNDERSIDE of the mattress (4). The top and the sides of the mattress must be airtight (5).

It is imperative to use the correct bedding on top of a BabeSafe®-wrapped mattress, click here for comprehensive instructions
